Fiona

Greek pulled me close to him, enveloping me in a haze of Creed cologne. The black three-piece suit he wore made him look like the head of a mafia, and he carried himself with the same class and demeanor. His gold-plated cufflinks sparkled next to his diamond Cartier watch. As always, he smelled good and looked even better. Too bad he didn’t look good enough to forget about his deceitfulness.

“What do you want, Greek?”

“Before you walk off, Fiona, there’s something I need to say.”

“Greek, I don’t wanna hear shit you gotta say.” I tried to walk away, but his grip around my waist tightened. He pulled me so close to him that our bodies connected. I could’ve pushed him off, but honestly, I wanted him on me. I missed him—wife, or not, but I was still angry with him for lying.

If Chance just so happened to walk around the corner, he would flip by what he saw. Greek was close enough to kiss me as he fought to explain his side of the story.

“I’m sorry for not telling you sooner—”

“I asked who she was at your party, Greek. You looked me dead in the eyes and said she was nobody. I trusted everything you said, and everything was a lie.”

“Everything wasn’t a lie, Fiona.”

“Move, Greek—”

“My feelings for you aren’t a lie.”

“That’s what you say, but your actions show otherwise. I’ve always been upfront and honest with you since the day we met. Why couldn’t you do the same, Greek?”

“Because you wouldn’t understand.”

“Understand what?” I quipped.

“Me and Ophelia have an arranged marriage,” he finally said. “It was something that was planned almost fifteen years ago. Something out of our control.”

“An arranged marriage?” I was skeptical about believing him. Greek had already proven that he was a good liar. How did I know he was telling the truth now? “What for?” I asked him.

“Ophelia’s father is a very powerful man,” Greek explained. “He offers protection to my family. That is the agreement.”

“Protection from who?”

“Enemies…government…law enforcement. As I said, he’s a very powerful man.”

Folding my arms, I looked at him sideways. I still had a hard time following his logic. “Who’s her father?”

Greek paused. “Forgive me, but I can’t tell you that, Fiona...”

I couldn’t say I was shocked by his response. “Well, forgive me for walking away.”

I turned to leave, but Greek grabbed my wrist. “Is it worth losing me, Fiona?”

I snatched my arm away and left the hallway, abandoning Greek and any excuses he had for why he lied.

When I finally made it back to my table, Chance looked restless. If I didn’t return when I did, I was sure he would’ve started looking for me.

“Everything cool?” Chance asked. “You were in there a minute.”

“Yeah, I’m fine. Tyler called me while I was in the restroom with some drama about Gunner—as usual. You know how she is.”

“Can you put Tyler on the backburner for me? Just for today. You know how important this day is,” he stressed.

“No, I know. I got it. Next time she calls, I won’t answer.
